March Matrimoney Clothing Interview

"The first time I was actually introduced to the streetwear game however, was when I was just playing around on cmonwealth and just fell in love with the whole culture."

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Geoff Garber, CEO/Creative Director for MatrimonEy CLothing. As far as the clothing line, I basically started researching and designing back in Fall of 2005. Since then, we've been trying to find the right manufacturer, connections, and basically our whole strategy. It wasn't until 2 years later, that we began our actual production of garments. P.S. I was looking through a CCS magazine today, and came to see that Chocolate Skate has an almost identical fucking shirt (King Kong). We did not bite from them because our shirts were printed last year, and I highly believe they did not bite from us...what a fucking coincidence

What gave you the idea to start your own label?

Ya know, I can say the same things that other people say about "how there was nothing hot out during that time, so I had to do somethin about it," but to tell you the truth, there really is a lot of hot shit out there, you just have to search for the stuff that is truly great and I believe we have something special. We aren't just about being a brand that will go out in a couple years, we really want to develop what we have and thrive off of that.

What is the "goal" of the label?

The goal of our label is to stay TRUE to our customers. We have custom tissue paper that we package our shirts in when bought online, along with a personal note that has a phrase and hand written sig. Just the little things that put smiles on people's faces.

Where can we find your shit for sale?

After our Spring 08 photo shoot, the shirts will be available at retail stores that will soon be put on our website, matrimoneyclothing as well as buying directly from our online store.

How did you guys get your start in the "streetwear" game?

We have always been into that whole being individual and disliking all the biters kind of deal, so that's how we basically came to the idea of a clothing line where you could differentiate yourself from the person next to you at any time. The first time I was actually introduced to the streetwear game however, was when I was just playing around on cmonwealth and just fell in love with the whole culture.

What celebrity do you hope to see rocking your shit one day and why?

Barack Obama, he represents what we believe is right

Favorite Shops in Texas?

Adikt, Centre, Motive807, thrift stores

If you could do a callabo t-shirt with who would it be and why?

Diamond Supply Co. because they are FUCKIN LEGENDS!!

Name a few of your idols in the music and fashion industry.

Wayne, Ye, HOV, Kid Cudi (10deep), N.E.R.D, Cool Kids

What local brands are you looking forward to working with?

Cultura Fina

What artist(s) would you like to do a callabo Tee with?

Cool Kids, Mickey Avalon

Should we be on the look out for more than just "Tees" from the company?

Most definitely, winter is just around the corner!

You are in the club, a dime piece scuffs your crispy pair of Creative Recs. you dummy out and tell her off, our do you hit her up for her number?

Slap her in the face and tell her to clean your shoes, super nasty

Being that you guys are under the "legal age" of 18 do you think that will hurt your label or do you think you will connect better to the youth better than the older demographic?

No, I believe we have an adequate sense of what the world is into, just as much as someone 20 years older than us. Age is just a number; personality, mentality, and drive isn't.

"Hype" good or bad?

I go back to the same thing I said about something being "hot." If it is truly great, then it will be around for another 30 years, if not, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY.

Shout outs?

Shout outs to all the supporting family, not just blood relatives, but the family that wears our clothing and relates to our lifestyles.

Anything else you guys wanna add?

Remember..."Manners, confidence, style" Fonzworth Bentley.
